Designing “Tideway”: a photography book on River Thames

  |   News   |   No comment

On April 2016 British commercial and advertising photographer Matthew Joseph exhibited his collection of photographs of River Thames and its people at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London. The exhibition included shots of the river’s traffic and portraits of individuals linked to the river through their line of work.

The exhibitions companion book titled “Tideway” was on display for sale at the event. I was commissioned by Matthew Joseph to design the book. As a writer, I especially enjoy designing this pieces. Matthew was looking for a minimalistic clean design with well use of white space. I aimed for a slick simplistic design that could enhance his photographs. The cover contained a very subtle graphic of the River Thames line, while for the inside pages I chose a modern and simple font type that could work around the photos in a nice and discreet mode.

I loved working on this project and not so often your work can get this type of exposure. The exhibition opening evening was a total success and the book has received great reviews. Looking forward working on similar projects in the future.
