THE CREATIVE POST - Things that inspire me to inspire you!

by Anthony Jones.

You still have a bit of time to enjoy the collection of medium format silver gelatin prints by fine art photographer Anthony Jones at the Greenwich Tourist Information Centre, London. The exhibition, that the artist has titled “Square” will be shown at the Centre until May 27th 2012.

The exhibition takes its name from the photographs being square, the result of using a Hasselblad camera and medium format film.

These are exciting times for me as just last week I was chosen to participate in the Art event ‘City City Bang Bang’ at Open Arts Café in London on the 24th May 2012.

During the show, I will be exhibiting some of my artworks along with artist Begoña Fernández. There will be some music from Afrobilly Jones and Flux; spoken word from Sh’maya; poetrics by Ruth Davis; short films from Julie Angel and Team Cerf and musical shenanigans and singalongs from venue host Maya Levy.

Hope to see you all there!

Open Arts Café was established in 2008 by Maya Levy and Tyne Rafaeli to give artists a chance to present their work in developmental and/or performance stage in a non-pressurised, dynamic and constructive atmosphere.

The venue, WLS, is based in Marble Arch and has vast state-of-the-art facilities including studio spaces, a screening room, and a large versatile performance space. Investing and nurturing a collective of young professional artists who convene under one roof to create and develop ideas without censorship or discrimination is a continuing and growing tradition at WLS.

‘City City Bang Bang’
Thursday, May 24th

spiderI am still amazed by what the most recent 3D printing technologies are capable of doing. It seems sort of unreal, as if taken from a Sci-Fi movie that you can get 3D objets from a printer!

Olaf Diegel — a professor of mechatronics at Massey University’s School of Engineering & Advanced Technology in New Zealand — has developed a series of intricate and beautifully crafted 3D-printed guitar models that are completely playable. The prototypes are still in the works and can be completely customized.

Diegel has posted the prototypes to his website called ODD, which features the tagline, “strange stuff you just want.”

With the help of a EOS Formiga P100 selective laser sintering system, Diegel was able to print sturdy and complex parts for the Spider and Scarab electric guitars, from the little insects inside the body to the structure that holds it up. The bodies are made of Polyamide 2200 or Alumide, according to the site.

There you go! I am in the process of publishing my first fiction book, a journey I started back in 2009. These days, in between long tedious sessions of grammar and spelling self corrections, I have been working on the cover for the book.

I am afraid the book is in Spanish -for now-, so for those who don’t speak my language, the book is titled “NEW ERA, the Chronicles of The Revealer”. And on the top right corner…”In a world devastated by the solar storms in 2012, the destiny of Mankind is in the hands of just one person”.

That’s all I will share with you for now. More info coming soon here and at my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheCreativePost

a5-445370532-810On my last visit back home I had the pleasant surprise of seeing live a fresh new initiative by the Spanish Art School No. 1 Reocin based in Santander and that they’ve called Proyecto Altera.

Twelve art students from the school (Tamara Vargas, Tamara Arriola, David Díaz, Anjana Rivas, Adrián Regalado, Elena Quintana, Isabel Ortíz (Béu), Paola Ruiz, Lorenzo Cruz, Esther San Juan, Manuel Cantera and Isabel Torre) illustrated the windows from various shops -mainly bookshops-, with illustrated characters from books or original characters by the artists using acrylic pens straight onto the shops’ glass windows. The aim of this project was bringing some cultural awareness to the street and give an opportunity to the art students to showcase their works in a very original and dynamic way.

a5-445370522-242Organised by Santander Creativa Foundation as a “cultural route” around the streets of Santander, the artists started their artworks on the very early hours of 24th March catching the attention of shoppers and locals on their way to work.

Well done!

OK. This is not a recent campaign but I was walking past a Kitchen and Bathroom Design studio and they had the ad displayed on their glass window on quiet a big poster size. I couldn’t help tracing back my steps to look at it again. So I admit it, the ad does the job, it gets people’s attention…but maybe for the wrong reasons?

Who wouldn’t be shocked after looking at an ad containing a heart-shaped butt? Definitely unusual, original… but wrong wrong wrong. One of the things this ad doesn’t do is telling you what the product is, and considering the Geberit AquaClean Toilet is “the first wall hung WC with integrated shower function, and therefore a quiet a revolutionary product, it is a shame that after the unavoidable visual impact we simply had no clue about what is being sold. Secondly, and I haven’t done any research on this, but I suspect that, for obvious reasons, they have probably had some difficulties to place this ad on many publications and mostly anywhere outdoors?

I couldn’t totally capture her beautiful cheeky smile  or that spark from her eyes when she is looking at something new and exciting but there it comes, my first daughter’s portrait now ready for our personal photo album. My biggest inspiration these days, love you.

Who said that traditional art creation methods and new digital technologies can’t work together.

This short animated film is the graduation project of Israeli artist Omer Ben David. The film sets the story of an old house cat who bids farewell to his home, his owner and the world he used to know.

Utilizing a 3D painterly look and rough yet clean design, this film conveys an atmospheric, vague, somewhat nuance of a story.
Creating a unique look of brush strokes that breathe and flow and operate as guides for the expression of the most inner feelings one might have in a situation of the sort.

But this is just one piece of an extraordinary talented artist. Please visit http://www.omerbendavid.com/obd_index.html and do not miss another of his projects during his studies at Bezalel Academy of Design and Arts (Jerusalem): ‘Raphael’, the story of an autistic child who draws upon an empty turtle shell in his attic room. Trapped within his own shell, only the unexpected visit opens a door to his mind. And the film will blow YOUR mind!
